According to the US EPA, 9 million tons of furniture is sent to landfills annually. The recent "fast furniture" trend has led to this staggering amount of waste. Cheap, trendy furniture ends up being low quality with a very limited life.

When we launched FUNCTION, our first guiding principle was to build beautiful, high quality furniture that was built to last and that wouldn't break the bank.

You have to start with durable materials

All of our products are crafted with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified baltic birch plywood. Baltic birch is one of most stable man-made wood products on the market. 

We choose to work in plywood because of its natural beauty and because it is the most sustainable form of wood on the market. The entire tree is used when manufacturing plywood - there is no waste.

For our tables and sideboards, we stainless steel legs.  Stainless steel is incredibly durable and can be recycled an infinite number of times.

Made to Order Precision Manufacturing 

All of our pieces are made to order. That means that we don't carry inventory and we don't pay rent on huge warehouses.  Instead, we manufacture all of our products in a small shop outside of Madison, WI. That allows us to pass those savings on to our customers.

All of furniture is made on our 3-axis Avid CNC machine - where we can produce incredibly accurate tolerances and can optimize our layouts to reduce as much waste as possible.
